AI Automation for Shopify: Start With the Boring Work

Every Shopify owner I talk to asks the same question. Where do I start with AI?

Start with the boring work. The repetitive tasks that eat your evenings and never really end.

Answering the same five customer questions. Writing descriptions for forty new SKUs. Chasing abandoned carts. Tagging and fulfilling orders. None of this needs your judgment. All of it can be automated.

Here is the order I recommend to small businesses.

First, the inbox. Most support questions repeat: where is my order, what is your return policy, do you ship to my city. A simple AI assistant trained on your store policies handles the repeatable ones and hands the hard ones to you. Your customers get answers at midnight. You get your evenings back.

Second, product content. AI writes a solid first draft of descriptions and alt text in seconds. You edit for voice. What took a weekend now takes an afternoon.

Third, follow-ups. Abandoned cart emails, review requests, win-back messages. These are rules plus words. Your store runs the rules. AI writes the words.

One honest warning: fix your data before you buy any AI app. AI cannot help if your product titles are a mess and your policies live only in your head. Clean the basics first, then automate.

You do not need a big budget or a developer. You need one painful repetitive task and the patience to automate it properly.

That is where I start with every small business I work with.
